Solar eclipse set to occur on 3rd November in Nigeria

Solar eclipses are a rare occurrence, eclipses in general can be defined as an astronomical event, when an astronomical body during the course of its movement passes through the shadow of another object, or when an astronomical object e.g the moon passes in between the line of sight of an astronomical object (in this case, the sun) and viewers on earth.
Its effect would be seen in all 36 states of Nigeria.
Nigeria has had her fair share of eclipses in the past, 1945, 1959, 2001 and 2006, eclipse enthusiasts would flood the country over the weekend, just to catch a glimpse of this beautiful event.
The Director General of NASRDA (National Space Research and Development Agency) Dr Saidu Mohammed,  advises that we wear sunglasses that day,

Prof Felix Okpara, the director for centre of Astronomy, University of Nsukka said the eclipse would start @ 1;03pm in Abuja, would be at its maximum by 2:40pm and would end by 4:03.

In Lagos, it would begin by 12:50pm, would reach its maximum by 2:40pm, and would end by 4:01pm.

In Ibadan, it would start by 12:52pm, end by 4:01pm with its maximum @ 2:32pm.
In Port Haccourt, it would begin by 1:03pm, end by 4:09 with its maximum @ 2:43pm...

Stay tuned, and observe the wonders of God this sunday, assuming the world doesn't end before Sunday, *deep sigh*.

French man found dead in his apartment eight years after apparent suicide

Over the weekend in France, a new home owner walked into his new apartment along with a locksmith, to inspect his new apartment, only to be greeted by the corpse of the apartment's former occupant.
The former owner has since been missing, all attempts to contact him or his family all proved abortive, his neighbors thought he was out of the country, the former occupant Thomas Ngin lost his job in 2005, and was in serious debt for a long time, it was in 2005 that he was last seen, all through this time, his neighbors have helped him clear his mailbox and pass letters under his door, not knowing that he had long commited suicide by hanging himself with his bedsheet.
This trend of lonely living is becoming very popular in France, this wont be the first time that a corpse is found years after its death.
Suicide and depression are serious problems faced by the western world.

A day in life without technology

A day in life without technology?
It's frightening to say the least, it might just be the end of the world as we know it, in a time where everything we do is based on technology, civilization won't last a day without it.

Technology is not one vague word, it's the application of scientific knowledge to solve human problems.
How are we going to survive without it? Did I just hear you say-- Our forefathers survived without it? That's a big lie! Even in the stone ages, there was still technology-- horse driven carts for transportation, swords, bows and arrows for defense, animal husks as flute for entertainment, though this may not seem significant when compared to the technology we have today, but it can't be discredited, this obsolete technology has formed the basis for what we have today. There's no doubt, technology has grown past all these, but we have to still give credit to the inventors of the past.

We have amphibious cars that can move on water and land, we have jets, though we don't have flying cars yet, but in the not too far future we would. It's strange, but it's even now that we don't need these modes of transport, communication has really taken over, now with just  a phone in hand, you can talk to someone else on the other end of the globe, or with a tab, hold a video conference with people from all over the globe, defying the need to travel.

A day without technology would be chaotic, imagine being stuck in the elevator, or not being able to make a phone call, no TV, Laptop, how would you take your bath? The taps won't work! The International Space Center would fall out of orbit and into the deep abyss of our galaxy-- the milky way, that would be billions of dollars gone, billions of dollars and tons of human thought and imagination.

Businesses would crumble!
Which business today isn't based on technology? From the small shop owner to the big oil exploration rigs, every business thrives on technology, they only differ in the complexity of the applied technology.
While the shop owner might not be able to use his computer or calculator anymore, the big ships used for oil exploration in the deep offshore oil wells of the world, won't be able to stay afloat let alone function!
There's no telling the amount of environmental havoc that would be wrecked that day, a day without technology, a day I wish would never come, not even in my dream.
.
The Hong-Kong airport located on an artificial island in the middle of the ocean which relies on smart sensors to remain levelled would no doubt lose this capability, and would definitely be shut down, London's Heathrow airport would be a mess, this airport known to have the most air traffic in the world would definitely not survive, airplanes would ram into each other, traffic lights won't work, yes I know we don't respect traffic lights in Nigeria, but in other countries of the world, motorists respect and trust the traffic lights.

Nigeria lost one of her satellites under an hour of power failure, imagine how many satellites would be lost by different countries and private firms that day, the only good thing we would gain back that day is our privacy--- at least American Satellites better known as 'cameras in the sky' would stop looking at us, and our emails and phone calls won't be tapped again, it's not like that would be any good, since no calls would be made that day, neither would any email be sent on that day.

The cinema halls would be full but the projectors won't work, people would have paid for movies they won't be able to watch, there's no doubt, a riot would erupt right there in Silverbird cinemas, Ozone cinemas or any other cinema in Nigeria, the police won't be able to help cause their vehicles won't work, people won't know what's happening cause the radio stations and TV stations won't be able to broadcast the news. You won't even be able to ask Google, so don't bother.

A day in life without technology, as much as I don't want to witness this, it does have a silver lining-- no war that day, people in the Northern parts of Nigeria would be able to walk freely on the road because Boko Haram Bombs would fail to detonate, and people that have got their brains brainwashed would have a second chance at life, extra time to think and consider If committing suicide and killing others is really a potent way of passing a message about how they detest western education, it's funny but even the bomb is a product of western education...

Technology has done much good, and also much bad, never the less, I can't stand A Day in life without technology.

The secrets of dieting

Thanks to the media, everyone’s perception on what the ideal physical appearance should be has been altered, the media has helped promote being slim often times even being underweight overe being normal weight especially in women, as a result of this, most women have turned to dieting and exercise to help get that ideal physical appearance.

What is dieting?
Dieting is the practice of eating food in a regulated fashion, dieting is practised for different reasons, it can either decrease, maintain or increase body weight. Dieting is often used in combination with physical exercise to loose weight in those who are over-weight or obese.
Some people, however, follow a diet to gain weight (usually in the form of muscles), this sort of dieting is practised by Body builders, or sportsmen such as rugby players, boxers and wrestlers. Dieting can be tailored to meet different needs, it all depends on the component of the diet.
Dieting to promote weight loss is the most popular, this type of dieting can be divided into 4 categories: Low fat diet, Low carbohydrate diet, Low calorie diets, Very low-calorie diets. These four categories are explained below:

1) Low fat diet:
Low fat diet involves the reduction of the percentage of fat in one's diet. Calorie consumption is reduced because less fat is consumed. This helps to bring a great reduction in weight since fat is the major culprit in excessive weight.

2) Low carbohydrate diet:
Low carbohydrate diet reduces the amount of carbohydrate in one’s diet, this has the same effect as low fat diets because, carbohydrates overtime can be converted into fat in the body, this fat could lead to weight gain, or could be converted back to glucose depending on what the body needs at that time. Low carbohydrate diets are sometimes ketogenic (i.e they restrict carbohydrate intake sufficiently to cause ketosis).

3) Low-calorie diets:
Low calorie diets usually produce an energy deficit of 500-1000 calories per day which can result in a 0.5 kg to 1 kg weight loss per week.

4) Very low-calorie diets:
Very low calorie diets provide 200-800 calories per day maintaining protein intake but limiting calories from both fat and carbohydrate.

Chinese couple sell Child to buy an Iphone

This just doesn't sound right
A Chinese couple identified as Zheng and Teng are currently facing criminal charges in China for illegally selling their infant daughter for $8,200.
The unemployed couple began placing online adverts for the sale of the child June this year, the child was delivered in their house, and handed over to the highest bidder, what is even more bizzare about this story is the fact that the mother of the child used the money gotten from the sale to buy an Iphone and other expensive goods.
The couple claim that they decided to sell the child because they couldn't afford to take care of her, whatever their excuse, I doubt if buying an Iphone found solve their financial issues...
This is just sickening!

"Change but don't change"

Princess Ayoola is a good friend of mine, and a great poet, she wrote this poem for someone,  she shared it with me and am sharing it here, she isn't just a pretty face, shes got real talent... Check it out.

"Change but don't change"

After all your heavy losses,
Your mistakes,
Here and there.
After all your ever-bleeding wounds,
From the lost wars of your short life,
I saw how fragile you were.
I sat and thought about what you should do,
To rebuild the ruins of your afflicted soul.

I think you have to change your body parts,
One by tender one,
And not be so skinny,
Some of them, at least –
To earn the happier days to come.

I think you might need,
A new pump for your heart,
To love as many women as you want.
Of course tender lips...
For smiles and burning kisses.
Oh! You'll need new lungs,
washed out of tar and nicotine,
To smell the streets after the rain.
And yes, nerves of steel too,
To bear the blows of fate,
At least, just to be ready...

I think you'll need a bigger chest,
To love...
To be kind to treacherous friends.
Bigger hands,
To hold on to the things you want,
The things that matter.

What would it matter if you were bald?
Or if your hair line is receding slowly?
Your remaining hairs,
The wind will gently comb back.

Your Humor, Heart and face,
You should leave as they are,
(You really must spend as little as possible),
As they complete you,
In ways I cannot even tell.

In short: you have to be alive enough,
To still look like yourself after all.

Beverly Osu plans to start a Church

Beverly Osu, was one of Nigeria's representatives at Big Brother Africa, although she didn't win the competition, she made real waves and was seen as a very controversial figure in the house.

She was interviewed yesterday by Daily times, in the interview, she talked about her background and lots of other things I came across this interview, and decided to write about it for the sake of my readers.

Beverly grew up in surulere, Lagos, she is the last child and the only girl among boys, she opened up in the interview that she was once in a Coventry in Enugu State while in secondary school, in her words 'I attended Daughters of Divine Love Convent, Enugu State.  I thought I would be a reverend sister but I abandoned the vision when I dropped out in my fifth year. She later finished her secondary school education in a secular school, and went on to attend Babcock university, she dropped out of babcock university and went on to enrrol in the National Open University.
Later on in the interview, she said she has strong belief in God, and has a dream of opening a church later, I know its wrong to judge anyone, but seriously? lol
Beverly, good luck on that one, you can read the rest of the interview HERE

Ex militant threatens to commit suicide

An ex-militant last week attempted suicide in Abuja, the ex-militant complained that the government has not given him his benefits, and that is why he attempted suicide in the open, it took the intervention of the police to persuade him from taking his own life, am really wondering if this was just a publicity stunt or he really meant business, if he did,  I don't think he has to come to the open to do it.
It seems this is the latest tactic Nigerians are using to get the attention of the federal government, really sad.

Ten hot tips on healthier living Part 2

6. Quit smoking
There is nothing good about it. If you're having trouble quitting, start smoking less today -- smoke only half a cigarette, and skip as many of your usual smokes as you can -- and get help right away. Get some guidance about why it is you smoke to figure out how best to stop doing it. Smoking cessation groups can be extremely helpful and supportive, and medications like a nicotine patch can help decrease the cravings

7. Don't focus on dieting, focus on eating.
Most people go on hunger strike only to over-eat later, why suffer all through the day and eat like a horse at night? Eat every four hours, it is better to eat moderately during the day than to suffer hunger pangs at night, and over-eat. Please note 'eat moderately'.

8. Eating won't solve emotional problems.
Many people eat when they are sad, though it might give you a temporary solution, eating shouldn't be taken as a solution to depression, get to the root of the problem and find out why you are so sad, eating to solve emotional problems would only give you more weight to worry about, and the problems would still remain.

9. Exercise.
Exercise helps to improve the circulation of blood through the body, this increased circulation helps get the necessary nutrients and oxygen to the different body parts, and also helps remove waste materials from these body parts. Exercise can take any form-- jogging, weight lifting, sprinting, playing squash, tennis etc.

10. Have routine massage.
Massage helps to reduce stress, stress is one of the top ten killers, make a date with the spa todaay.

Ten hot tips for healthier living (part1)

Health is wealth, no matter how much you have, you need to be alive to enjoy the wealth, I came across this ten health tips, and I feel it would be great to share them with my faithful readers. Here they are, ten health tips:

1. Wear a pedometer:
A pedometer is a device used to measure the distance you trek in a day, walking is a good form of exercise, but its usually under-used, we are advised to walk at least 30 minutes everyday at a fast pace, or take 10,000 steps in a day... Look on the bright side, those of us without cars have got a good excuse to trek, lol...

2. Eat at least two fish meals per week.
Fishes contain essential oils that have been found to be good for the heart and brain, and they help tp prevent heart disease, fish is very good for infants as it helps their brain development. So slow down on the cholestrol ridden chicken, and go the fish way...

3. Drink lots of water.
This wont come as a surprise to most people, water is really the best cure for thirst, and it helps in cleaning the body of toxic substances, the great Afrobeat musician Fela even sang about the benefits of water in his song Water e no get enemy, yes, we all know this, but how many of us actually practice it? Drink at least 4 glasses of water everyday, so when next you go clubbin, and your friends ask what you are going to 'pop' just say water 'winks'...

4. Sleep eight hours a night.
I can see the 'Jonahs' smiling, sleep is good for your health, if you dont need sleep, God wont have designed us to fall asleep at night, it helps to reduce stress, boosts memory, reduces the risk of an heart attack, and besides it gives you the opportunity to dream about the empires you hope to build, keep dreaming, cause Law of attraction really works.

5. Keep sugar and caffeine to a minimum
Sugar and caffeine can be seen as legal evils, too much sugar is bad for you, caffeine isn't any better, high blood sugar has been linked to erectile dysfunction in men, diabetes in people and itching. Caffeine on the other hand is the active ingredient in coffee and most energy drinks, it helps keep us alert, it is however linked to heart failure, why take in stimulants to be alert, when you are alert already? Caffeine is also addictive.

Watch out for Part 2.....

China has been known for producing nearly every technological product known to man, as a matter of fact, most phones are made in China, but the only difference is the specification to which the phone is made, china being the most populous country in the world has very cheap labor that attracts phone makers to produce in China.

Kris Jenner, the Kardashians manager, and Bruce Jenner announce their separation

Manager of the Kardashian family and mother to the Kardashians, Kris Jenner announced last night that she and her olympian Husband Bruce Jenner, are seperated, and would be living in separate houses.
This news won't come as a surprise to those who follow the show 'Keeping up with the kardashians' because, in the last series, Bruce moved out of the house, this is just another blow on the family following the marriage issues between Khloe and her basketball husband Lamar.
Could this separation lead to divorce or is it just a publicity stunt? Time would tell, in the main time, Bruce now lives in Malibu with his sons from his first marriage, while Kris lives with her daughters, no doubt, this occurrence would increase viewers interest in the show 'Keeping up with the Kardashians' a show that rakes in a whooping $40 million dollars (six billion naira) for the family, more interest in the show means more money for the family, lol, who says bad events can't give you more money....

The only solution to unemployment....

The mind of an Entrepreneur….. You are unemployed… so?
I recall the time of birth, when a child first has a firsthand experience of what the world looks like. The joy it brings to the parents, relatives and well wishers. Everyone said a word of prayer and all wished the child a successful and fulfilling life. From there on, expectations arises.
As times goes on, the child begins to experience growth and development (as expected) and the need for formal Education sets in. An average Nigerian child spends about two years in preschool, five year  in the primary school, 6 years in the secondary school and a minimum of 4 years in the tertiary institution. This amount to about 18-20 years of a man’s life (almost a quarter of one’s entire life) dedicated to formal Education only!( that’s f there is no form of delay)
Pardon my thoughts,” why would I devote such a substantial portion of my life to formal Education only to finish and get unemployed? Why would I go through as much as 18-20 years of formal training only to work and earn peanuts? No way! God forbid!
Now! here is what you should understand, your present state of unemployment is a pointer that you have simply refused to listen to your real self, you have chosen to ignore your inner strength thereby losing touch with your inner power which will provide you with the required dose of confidence to propel you out of your present state and make you activate the mind of an entrepreneur.
Maybe you don’t know, a lot is expected from you because a lot have been sacrificed for you. Someone out there needs you to succeed before he/she can make it in life. You anchor many people’s destiny therefore, you can’t afford to fail. For all I care, you can’t continue to search for a job that will add little or no (financial) value to your life; you have to wake up to reality. You have to consult your real self.
May I remind you that Nigeria as a country boost of about 180 million people in population? Apparently, there are needs to be catered for. So many wants and desires are unattended to? There are lots of services to be rendered that no one has ever thought of? Are you thinking already? Are you seeing the opportunities that am seeing? Can you make them come alive? I leave you to ruminate on that!
To change your present state isn’t a big deal, all you require is a strong will for a change. You must be thirsty, passionate and zealous to experience a change of fortune. Just look deep, connect with your inner person and devote quality time to think of what you can do to add financial value to your life.
Trust me! Your present [today] will become [a yesterday] when you activate that mind of an entrepreneur that lives within you.

Video: Airplane carrying Gov Agagu's corpse crashes in Lagos

The airplane that was meant to carry the corpse of Governor Agagu for his final burial rights in Ondo State  crashed earlier today at the Lagos Domestic airport, it was a small passenger plane registered under the Associated airlines.
The airplane crashed shortly after take-off, killing 16 out of its 20 passengers, the cause of the accident is still unknown, however the blackbox has been found, and handed over to the Accident Investigation Bureau AIB for further investigation into the cause of the accident, the airplane crashed within the airport premises.
Rescue effort is still underway at the airport, this is a real tragedy...

Brazilian family owns SEVEN tigers as pets

Some families have dozens of cars, some have houses all around the world, some have money, others don't what The Borges' family own in Brazil isn't something you would see often... they own 7 tigers, as if that isn't enough, they own 2 lions too!
To crown it all up, the family and their pets live together.

It all started when Aryas Borges (the father) rescued two tigers from a circus in 2005, ever since then, they have developed a soft spot for this big cats, he and his three daughters have managed to domesticate the cats by taking care of them and feeding them as normal cats, this has kept their killer instinct at bay!

This passion of theirs for the wild animals has not been without opposition from the public and wildlife specialists who believe that this hobby of the brazilian family is a threat to people's safety. There have been different cases of such pets turning against their owners, as of now, the family is still safe, lets hope it remains that way...

2yr old chinese boy delivered of his twin

Earlier this week, a two year old (Xiao Feng) chinese boy who had a protruding stomach and difficulty breathing was delivered of his parasitic twin brother, doctors conducted an MRI scan on the boy when he was rushed to the hospital and found out that the reason for his breathing problem was as a result of a fetus present in him!
Imagine a toddler male giving birth!
As odd as this sounds, this condition named 'fetus in fetus' is actually well documented, it occurs in 1 in every 500,000 births, before this present case, in September 2011, a 41 year old Indonesian man was delivered of his parasitic twin, now that is strange--- carrying a baby for 41 years! Women around the world have to give this man an award, lol.
You can view the video here
